Top 4 Surprise Celeb Golfers… Alice Cooper, Samuel L Jackson, and MORE!

To many, golf is seen as a luxury sport. Played by politicians, professional sportsmen, and others that fit the conventional model of the upper class.

However, there are many people who play golf across the world, who don’t necessarily fit that mold. Golf is not an exclusive sport, and is something that anyone, no matter who they are or where they are from, can be passionate for.

As such, we have listed four celebrities who you may be surprised to find are obsessed with golf!

1. Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper is one of classic rock’s most iconic figures. Often seen donning black eye makeup and studded top hats, his glam-rock visuals make him stand out even against contemporary musicians. And with his live performances often being macabre and twisted theatrical events, with images of executions and monsters, he certainly does not appear to be the type of person you would find shooting birdies at your local golf court.

And yet, despite his gothic aesthetic and twisted theatrical performances, ‘The Godfather of Shock Rock’ is also an avid golfer, ’an addict’ in his own words. Having been addicted to drugs and alcohol in his past, Alice Cooper was able to stave off his addiction by creating a new, far less damaging one; golf.

The opportunity to get better, and to get the perfect hit, is what makes golf so addicting to many. It is why so many come back to play golf, again and again. For Alice Cooper, this addiction to golf has been a lifesaver, while also giving him a passion for the sport that very few can match. And considering Alice Cooper is still taking his nightmarish theatrical performances around the world at the age of 73, he must be doing something right.

2. Celine Dion

With a powerful voice and incredible musical career behind her, Celine Dion is a modern household name. However, one thing many do not know about the ‘My Heart Will Go On’ singer is that she is also a golf fanatic.

Celine Dion is such a big fan of golf, in fact, that she was once the owner of the Club de Golf Le Mirage in Carolina, having purchased it all the way back in the 90s; a venue who has hosted such famous guests as Sylvester Stallone and Samuel L Jackson. But more on him later.

She is said to have a golf course on her property, and is friends with many a famed golfer, including Karrie Webb, whom she jumped into a pond with after she won the Kraft Nabisco.

It seems, the only thing on par with Dion’s incredible voice is her passion for the sport we love.

3. Samuel L Jackson

Known for the violent, abrasive, and oftentimes comedic characters he plays on screen, such as Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction and Nick Fury in The Avengers franchise of films, Samuel L Jackson is not likely to be someone people would expect to enjoy a round on the green.

But, it is important to remember that actors are far from the characters they play, so despite the oftentimes brutal roles he takes, Samuel L Jackson can often be found on the fairways of championship golf courses all over the world. He is an avid golfer, frequently seen playing games with other celebrities, CEOs, and even occasionally against former US president Donald Trump.

With his handicap reportedly being below 7, and a swing good enough to shoot a 78 in St. Andrews while playing alongside golf superstar Tiger Woods, his skills on the green are nothing to be scoffed at, being one of the best celebrity golfers on this list.

He is so committed to playing, in fact, that Samuel L Jackson even stipulates in his film contracts that he be able to play golf during shoots, having stated that, without it he becomes irritable. We’re not sure what’s more impressive- Samuel L Jackson’s filmography, or his commitment to the sport.

4. Bill Murray

The star of seminal golf movie Caddyshack, it may not be all that surprising to find out that Bill Murray is also a massive golfing fan in real life.

A regular competitor at the Pebble Beach AT&T Pro-Am, and co-owner of the William Murray golf merchandise brand, Murrays love for golf is obvious. Routinely photographed in traditional golfing attire when out on the green, and with an alleged handicap of eight, Murray is as much a true golfer on film as he is in reality.
